Summertime and the living is easy! The Old Kentucky theme reverberates through the wind high on the hills at Baldwin Farms. When you see the activity of planting the gardens, baling the hay, harvesting the produce and cutting the summer blooms of the fresh flowers grown for market, you feel a connection to the land. We offer a variety of products from our labors.
From time-to-time, we have a special treat. This year we have some rabbits for sale at $10@. They make good pets. So stop by the rabbit cage and take one home when you come to visit. You'll enjoy seeing the chickens, ducks and goats when you come.
If you can't make it out to the farm, stop by our Farmer's Market booth at Lowe's Parking Lot.

Welcome to the Sunshine at Baldwin Farms!
We've been fortunate and busy this summer, putting into place new farming techniques to reduce our labor hours and increase conservation techniques to conserve our resources. We've implemented ideas like mulching with plastic to save on water and help the plants during times of drought. Now we're not so dependent on the rain and greatly reduces herbicide use. We had a wonderful time the day we first laid the plastic, learning how to use it. We've implemented the use of Bio Mass (Soy Soap) which is absorbed through the leaves and improves production. Bees have been added to pollinate, especially the pumpkin crop.
We added Raptor Perches in the fields. These are high perches for birds of prey (owls, hawks, etc.) so they can rest high up from the produce and trees. From way up there, they can watch for their food...bugs...mice...etc...without resting on the brances of the trees and bushes, breaking them off. It gives the plants a better chance to grow strong and beautiful while allowing the birds the freedom to hunt naturally. It's one more way to conserve natural resources naturally.
Pedro has a new toy, a sprayer that he uses for the trees. It is very high powered. The first time he hooked it up to test it, he had it pointed towards the rabbit cage. When he turned it on, he nearly blew the fur off the poor rabbits as they landed up against the wire wall of the cage! Now he has the hang of it and is happily getting done in one day what it took him many days/weeks to do before. He is a happy man!
Time saving tactics like these give us a little more time to take the kids out to listen to the frogs and watch the dogs swim in the ponds. That is what farm life is all about.
We can't wait to see you this summer!
